The construction of the kishuimen bridge was commenced on December 21, 1992, with a double deck design and a total contract value of HK $1643 million. The upper level of the bridge is a three lane two-way separated expressway, while the lower level is covered by two tracks of MTR Airport Expressway and Tung Chung Line, and two single lane roads for emergency use (such as typhoon).

The steel part is made in Shekou, Shenzhen.
 
 
 
The concrete part is built on the site.
 
 
 
The finished components are transported to the bridge by pontoon, lifted by crane, and then connected.
